On February 19, 2026, the Sankofa Afri-Canadian Mentorship+ Hub formally launched during Black History Month through a carefully designed Partnership Development Working Convening held at its Toronto headquarters.

The launch was intentionally structured as a working dialogue — not a ceremonial event. Leaders from community organizations, philanthropy, workforce development, youth initiatives, and institutional partners gathered to explore how coordinated mentorship and partnership can strengthen education, employment, and economic pathways for Afri-Canadian newcomers.

A Deliberate Moment

Convening during Black History Month was intentional.

While the month often invites reflection on legacy and contribution, Sankofa’s launch emphasized continuity and responsibility — moving from remembrance to institution-building, and from aspiration to structured opportunity.

The guiding question of the day was clear:

How do we turn talent into opportunity — responsibly, ethically, and durably?

A Platform, Not a Service Vendor

Sankofa was created to address fragmentation in youth transitions. Many highly educated newcomers arrive in Canada with strong credentials and experience but encounter complex and disconnected pathways.

Sankofa does not replace existing institutions. Instead, it serves as a connective platform through its Mentorship+ model — linking education, employment readiness, entrepreneurship skills, financial literacy, digital access, and learning systems within a public-benefit framework.

The Hub operates as a federally incorporated not-for-profit and registered charitable organization in Canada, guided by principles of accountability, safeguarding, and learning-oriented implementation.

Partnership in Practice

The convening highlighted Sankofa’s structured partnership architecture across six pathways:

1. Youth Identification & Community Engagement

2. Education, Skills & Employment Readiness

3. Entrepreneurship & Enterprise Skills Development

4. Financial Literacy & Economic Empowerment

5. Digital Platform & Outreach

6. Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning & Impact

Participants engaged in focused working circles to explore alignment, realistic collaboration, and responsible next steps.

The Mastercard Foundation supports the EMERGE+ Futures Initiative, reinforcing Sankofa’s commitment to disciplined, youth-centered partnership and systems-level strengthening.

From Dialogue to Implementation

Feedback from participants described the convening as educative, connective, thoughtfully designed, and professionally executed.

More importantly, it marked a transition:

From convening to implementation.

From dialogue to structured follow-through.

From legacy to leadership.

Sankofa now moves into the next phase of operationalizing Mentorship+ through aligned partnership and accountable practice.

We welcome continued engagement from mentors, institutional partners, and community leaders committed to strengthening youth transitions with integrity.
